STORM CENTRAL: Possibly 82 Centimetres Of Snow For Saint John In 5 Days

Don't feel bad, it's like this all over the Maritimes today.

Saint John had  21 centimetres of snow on the ground by noon.

Bob Robichaud of Environment Canada tells us Moncton had 23 centimetres by noon.

He says they have a bit less in Fredericton and even less as you go further north.

Another 5-10 cm's is on the way before the storm clears off overnight.

We hit the deep freeze tonight with significant windchill making it feel like -30.

The family of Stan Mikita announcing the Chicago Blackhawks legend has been diagnosed with dementia. The Blackhawks also releasing a statement saying that they are thinking of him and his family at this difficult time and wish him well.

There are 11 games in the NHL today including the Montreal Canadians facing the Washington Capitals, the Toronto Maple Leafs up against the Philidelphia Flyers and the New York Islanders playing the Detroit Red Wings.

In NBA action the Toronto Raptors meet the Washington Wizards.

Proposed Tax Credit To Help Seniors With Renos Deemed "Unacceptable"

It's no secret the New Brunswick government needs to find ways to reduce spending on healthcare.

Premier Brian Gallant said they should focus on getting seniors out of hospitals, and said introducing a tax credit for seniors will let them renovate their homes and live there longer.

Cecile Cassista is the Executive Director of the Coalition for Seniors and Nursing Home Residents' Rights, and she says the tax credit is unacceptable.

Another Potential Storm System To Hit Our Region Early Next Week?

We're getting another firm reminder that winter is not over yet.  Today's storm will have dumped up to 35 centimetres additional snow by the time it's all over.   But Environment Canada Meteorologist Bob Robichaud told us about another system that they are watching that is expected to hit Monday night into Tuesday.

Robichaud says at this point it is too early to tell exactly what path this next storm will take, because it has been all over the place since they first started watching it.

Man Arrested After Hit & Run In Quispamsis

A man is in custody after a hit and run in Quispamsis.

Kennebecasis Regional Police say it happened on the Hammond River Road at about 6 this morning. We're told nobody was in the car that the man hit and a short time after taking off he went off the road himself.

There were no injuries.

We're told the man had an outstanding warrant and he will be appearing in court tomorrow.

In NHL action last night the Pittsburgh Penguins getting by the New Jersey Devils 2-1, the Chicago Blackhawks beating the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 and the Colorado Avalanche shutting out the Nashville Predators 3-nothing.

In the NBA the Toronto Raptors defeating the Brooklyn Nets 127-122 in overtime.

In the Maritime Hockey League, the St. Stephen Aces got by Miramichi 5-3.

In the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Saint John defeated Drummondville 6-2.

STORM CENTRAL: Latest Storm Could Bring 35 Centimetres Of Snow

After being pummelled by one winter storm just a few short days ago, we're now right in the middle of another.

Most of New Brunswick is under a winter storm warning including Saint John with some areas under an extreme cold warning.

Environment Canada says the winds are expected to intensify throughout today into tonight which will create blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Up to 35 centimetres of snow is possible with the highest amounts over the southeastern portion of the province.

A New School's Name Will Honour The Memory Of Chris Saunders

The memory of a KV man and sailor will be kept alive at a new school.
The new K to 5 school in Quispamsis will be called Chris Saunders Memorial Elementary School.

Saunders grew up in the KV and served with the Canadian Navy before his death in the line of duty in 2004.

Education Minister Serge Rousselle revealed the name this morning saying this school will be a fantastic asset for the community.
He says it will be a lasting memory in this community and a very good way to remember someone who served his country very well.
