Milltown Elementary School is seeking volunteers for their Literacy Mentoring Program. Volunteers read with a grade 2 students twice a week from 2 - 3pm, and the program runs for 6 weeks. If you would like to volunteer, call Cathy at 466-7362.
The Heritage Chapter IODE is holding a bottle drive to raise money in order to purchase books for children. All you have to do is drop your bottles off at the Charlotte County Can and Bottle Recycling Depot in the Industrial Park in St. Stephen. And tell them it's for the Books for Kids Project. Help kids keep the love of books alive.
Don't miss the St. Kateri Tekakwitha community supper at the ICC Hall, Thursday, October 12th, from 4:30 - 6pm US Time, located at 31 Calais Avenue. Menu will include spaghetti and meatballs, salad, garlic bread, beverages and coconut cake! Cost is $9 for adults, $5 for kids 18 and under; and $23 for the whole family!

The 15th Annual Walk Cause We Care for Charlotte County Cancer will be taking place Saturday, October 14th. Register at 9am, walk starts at 11am. There are 3 walks taking place in Charlotte County, for St. George - Call Sonia Vance at 755-0645, for St. Stephen - Call Fred Young at 466-4557, and for Grand Manan - Call Sue Borthwick at 662-3400. The 4th Annual Children's Wish Gala in support of the Children's Wish Foundation will be held Thursday, October 19th. at the Saint John Trade & Convention Centre. The St. Stephen's Holy Rosary Parish is holding a fundraising ham dinner. Proceeds will go towards their upcoming Vacation Bible School. The dinner will be held Thursday, October 19th, at St. Patrick's Hall on Milltown Blvd, beginning at 6pm. Cost is $16 for adults, $8 for kids 12 and under. For tickets, call 466-6043.
A Poor Boys Supper will take place Friday, October 20th, at the Kirk McColl Church in St. Stephen, beginning at 5:30pm. Located at 70 King Street. Serving Mac & cheese, baked beans, hotdogs, rolls and gingerbread. Freewill offering plus 1 non perishable food item, with all proceeds going to help our local food bank.
A Baked beans and Fried Dough Supper will be held at the Sea View Full Gospel Church in Back Bay, Friday, October 20th. From 4-5pm is Take Out Only, from 5-6:30 is Eat In Only. The St. Stephen/Milltown Lions Club will hold their annual hunters breakfast on Saturday, October 21st, at the St. Stephen Legion from 6:30 - 10am. A free will donation will be accepted.
Grab your walking shoes and support Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness. The Charlotte County "A Walk To Remember" will be held Sunday, October 22nd, from 1-3:30pm. The walk will begin on the St. Stephen waterfront near the Garcelon Civic Center. A memorial tree dedication and refreshments will follow. In case of rain, the walk will be held inside the Civic Center on the track. Register for free and purchase a t-shirt. A benefit will be held for Jim and Sheila Miller, Sunday, October 22nd, from 1 to 5pm at the Magaguadavic Place in St. George. In July, Jim suffered a stroke, and will need extensive therapy. His wife Sheila will be off work indefinately in order to care for him. Their home will require major construction to create a bedroom and bathroom to accomodate Jim when he returns home, as he can't go up the stairs. At the benefit there will be a BBQ, chinese auction, 50/50 draw, and tickets will be sold on 20 lbs of lobster. All proceeds go to help Jim and Sheila in their time of need. The Blacks Harbour Home & School's 6th Annual Trunk or Treat will be held Friday, October 27th, from 6-8pm. A fun Halloween event with games in the Gym with prizes and treats, go on a walk through the Spooky Hallway, then go outside to the parking lot and receive treats from decorated trunks. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Enter your trunk, decorate it, and fill it with treats to pass out to the kids. Prizes will be won for best decorated trunk. The St. George and Area Food Bank will be there with a trunk, you're asked to please bring a donation along with you. All treats must be peanut-free. For more information call 755-0980.
