Browns Flat Residents Rallying To Save Elementary School

With the future of Browns Flat Elementary School hanging in the balance residents are taking action to save the school from being shut down.

If the school is closed then students who attend Browns Flat Elementary would shift over to Westfield Elementary and there are worries over the young children having to go on long bus commutes unsupervised.

Gloria Donald is a member of the Parent School Support Committee at the school and she tells us the school is the centre of Browns Flat, saying if you take it out of the community then it will become a broken community.

The first public information session by the Anglophone South District Education Council is being held on March 12. The second meeting will be in early April, and the third public meeting will be on April 29. If the recommendation ends up being to close the school, provincial Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development Serge Rouselle must approve the decision.

Donald tells us an online petition to keep the school open has gathered around 500 signatures. You can check it out by clicking here.
