The Gallant government sees the contact centre sector as a growth industry for New Brunswick.
Premier Brian Gallant says the sector employs approximately 18,000 New Brunswickers and contributes about $1 billion to our economy.
"There's some stigma around the industry, unfortunately, and some of these things may have been more true in the past, decades ago when it first started," says Gallant. "But nowadays, we have very technical jobs, very complex jobs, and jobs with a lot of growth opportunities for the individual."
Gallant concedes the deals in the industry don't always play out as planned but says that's why they structure them with the payroll rebates.
It was announced Monday up to 227 new jobs are coming to the Saint John Air Canada contact centre with the help of payroll rebates of up to $1.5 million from Opportunities New Brunswick.
