Common Council sealing the fate of the Somerset Community Centre in the city's North end by approving its closure at the end of May.
City Staff says that by closing the centre at that date there will be a savings of $32,000 this year and $68,000 next year.
Councillor Susan Fullerton taking issue with the idea of staff investigating ways to reinvest those savings into community outreach partnerships in the Crescent Valley neighbourhood. She says she doesn't think that every cent of money that they have to work with should be spent just for the sake of spending it.
One of the reasons staff was recommending the closure of the centre was because the new Y is going to be opening up on Churchill Boulevard in November.
The City budgets $99,000 annually for programming at the SCC.
