Common Councillor Has Idea To Raise Revenue

The provincial government is giving Saint John the largest unconditional grant of any municipality at $16.6 billion. That's in addition to more than $1.2 million in financial assistance because of the freeze next year with property taxes.

Common Councillor Greg Norton is calling for the city to be allowed to keep the revenue generated from speeding tickets.

It was back in 2015 that the city stopped receiving that revenue but, as Norton sees it, the city still has to pick up the tab for enforcement at a time when the cost of policing is on the rise.
