The worker who fell at the site of the new Irving Oil headquarters on Monday afternoon has died.

The fall happened at around 1:30pm on Monday and the 33-year-old worker passed away in hospital from his injuries.

A statement from EllisDon/FCC released tonight identifies the employee of their subcontractor as Christopher Adam Carleton.

It says they are deeply saddened and sending heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the Carleton family during this difficult time.

Investigators with WorkSafeNB are on site at 10 Sydney Street and a stop-work order has been issued.

"The investigation helps WorkSafeNB determine how the fatality may have been prevented," WorkSafeNB says in a statement, "and whether there were any violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act or its regulations."

In a series of tweets late this afternoon, the company says it's deeply saddened by the incident, calling it a difficult day for their company and the companies they work with.
