The Canadian Cancer Society believes New Brunswick will have the best smoke-free laws in the country starting July 1.
Changes to the New Brunswick Smoke-Free Places and Tobacco Sales Act will mean smoking and vaping will no longer be allowed on or near outdoor patios, playgrounds, sports fields, walking trails or building entrances and exits.
Canadian Cancer Society spokesperson Rob Cunningham believes the changes are very progressive.
"It makes New Brunswick a leader. On the provincial level, out of every province in Canada, New Brunswick will have the best smoke-free laws."
Some exceptions to the law apply within provincial parks including in campsites, golf courses and designated smoking areas.
Other changes going into effect relate to the sale and display of e-cigarettes and their liquids.
