Now that winter is here, New Brunswick's Emergency Measures Organization is encouraging residents to be prepared especially following the devastating ice storm earlier this year.

EMO spokesperson Danielle Elliott says the "12 days of emergency preparedness" has been launched through social media as a reminder to have items needed in an emergency.

"We will have a number of different posts and images shared to give families and gift-givers some ideas to help New Brunswickers be prepared during the holidays and during the winter season," she notes.

In an effort to remain self-sufficient without power for up to three days, Elliott says all homes should have a 72-hour emergency preparedness kit with vital supplies such as bottled water, canned food, wind-up or battery powered radios and flashlights along with a first aid kit.
