More than three dozen tenants have been displaced after a fire late yesterday night extensively damaged a four-storey apartment building in Dieppe.
The blaze at 487 Champlain Street was reported shortly after 10 p.m. and took several hours for fire departments from Dieppe and Moncton to put out. There were no injuries reported, though at least one woman had to be rescued by ladder from a third-storey window.
The Canadian Red Cross arranged emergency lodging, food and clothing purchases for 20 tenants as of early today (Monday), but are expected to assist more later in the day as some tenants of the 32-unit building were away for the Labour Day long weekend and not all may be aware of the fire.
There was no immediate word on cause.
