It's no secret the New Brunswick government needs to find ways to reduce spending on healthcare.

Premier Brian Gallant said they should focus on getting seniors out of hospitals, and said introducing a tax credit for seniors will let them renovate their homes and live there longer.

Cecile Cassista is the Executive Director of the Coalition for Seniors and Nursing Home Residents' Rights, and she says the tax credit is unacceptable.

With 55-thousand seniors living in low income, even with a tax credit they would be unable to afford a renovation. She asks who is going to benefit from this.

Cassista says the government needs to recognize seniors want to live independently, and not be a burden on their families.
