A Saint John MLA says she's doing really well since being diagnosed with breast cancer three months ago.
Dorothy Shephard says she had surgery on Jan. 25 and will begin chemotherapy on March 21.
She spoke to us this week after once again being nominated as the Progressive Conservative candidate for Saint John Lancaster.
"It was a longer wait for treatment than I had anticipated, it's normal," says Shephard. "I've got some time on my hands to be available to contribute and so I want to do that."
Shephard touching on the support she’s received since being diagnosed with breast cancer late last year. “There’s no doubt about it that cancer sucks, but I’m in a good place with it and will be just fine.”

Shephard says being a patient in the health-care system gives her a whole new perspective on how things are done.
"I have been so impressed with the caliber of doctors, nurses, and the way that I have been treated going through this cancer process," she says. "We really, truly have not only a state-of-the art professional team, but we have state-of-the-art patient care.
The Progressive Conservative MLA says the notes of encouragement and phone calls she's received from friends and strangers alike have been phenomenal.
