Common Council is being urged to reorganize the Cultural Affairs Office and The Saint John Community Arts Board.

Spokesperson Michael Wennberg told council on Monday that Arts, Culture and Heritage are huge in Saint John, but the city needs to put more money into it than the current $700,000 from an operating  budget of $151.5 million.

He says that amount equates to less than 6/10ths of one percent of the current budget.

Wennberg says in comparison Moncton, which in 2016 had an operating budget of $148 million, ended up spending $4 million on culture.

Council was also told eliminating the cultural affairs office would be a huge mistake that would cost the city dearly.
