Beginning with the 2019 city budget, a long range financial outlook will be included. That's part of the plan to restructure city finances.
Mayor Don Darling says budgeting will be done more in line with how the private sector operates with more discipline on spending.
The city's Finance Committee also wants to set up reserve funds for rainy day spending to cover costs not budgeted for.
The city is projecting a year end surplus of $1.1 million but despite that, Mayor Darling maintains Saint John still faces a financial crisis in 2018.
