With eighteen new memory care beds coming to Charlotte County in the next year, many are wondering where they will go.
A total of over 400 of the special beds will be distributed across the province, specifically for patients living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.
Premier Brian Gallant says first thing is a request for proposal will go out, "You could find the best bid would be to have eighteen [beds] altogether in a new build. It could be having two separate new builds of nine [beds] each. It could be adding nine beds to a wing of an existing infrastructure, or eighteen to an existing infrastructure."
He says once the RFP goes out, the best bid will be selected after everyone submits their proposals and presentations on how they want to create the additional beds.
The Liberal's five year nursing home strategy will also include a number of initiatives, including building ten sixty-bed nursing homes, wage increases for special care and home support workers, and a pilot project to free up acute-care beds.
